Eye injuries in the workplace are not uncommon. Fortunately, in most cases they can be prevented by wearing safety work glasses.

On some jobs, wearing safety glasses may seem inconvenient especially if you believe the risk of an eye injury is low. Protective eyewear is necessary if you are working with objects that could potentially be harmful. Your vision is precious so it is certainly better to be safe than sorry when it comes to your eyes. Common items that could cause eye injuries include:

  • flying objects, such as metal fragments, small pieces of glass or wood
  • hazardous chemicals
  • tools
  • small particles
  • UV radiation

What type of safety glasses are best?

Traditional safety glasses, googles, or even face shields are all appropriate types. The type of glasses you wear depends on your work environment. Remember, serious eye injuries can cause vision impairment and possibly vision loss in extreme cases. So it is important that you protect eyes.

Ask your employer if safety glasses are recommended for your job.

Thank you for trusting us with your vision care.
