What is Skin Resurfacing?
The skin is the largest organ in our
bodies. As we age the effects of the sun and age appear around our
eyes and lips. Collagen beneath our skin diminishes and deeper wrinkles
begin to appear.
Laser resurfacing removes superficial and
moderately deep lines and wrinkles. The laser unlocks your skin's
natural genetic ability to regenerate itself. Improvement may
continue for three to six months as aged and and sun-damaged deep
collagen areas continue to regenerate and repair themselves.
What is an Erbium Laser?
The Erbium laser produces less heating or
burning of surrounding tissue than other lasers.
Erbium laser treatment also stimulates the production of collagen,
creating a tightening and smoothing of the skin.
Erbium laser often makes it possible to treat darker pigmented skin
tones.
Erbium laser can be used on face, neck, hands, and chest.
Erbium laser treatment usually has less redness, swelling and bruising
present.
What are the advantages?
With this unique dual laser, recovery time is
quick.
The treatment results in a firmer, smoother and renewed appearance to
the skin.
Compared to other treatments, physicians report that patients are
experiencing excellent cosmetic results with reduced redness, fewer
pigmentary changes, and a faster return to normal activities as compared
to other skin resurfacing methods.
Is the treatment painful?
Most patients experience only minimal
discomfort. Our CHEC surgeon will discss anesthesia and pain
medications necessary for the treatment.
Are there any side effects?
Side effects are minimal. There may be
some redness, but this usually subsides quickly after treatment.
How long is a typical treatment?
Each treatment varies, however, the typical
procedure lasts about an hour.
How long is recovery?
This depends upon the
individual and upon the procedure performed.
It usually takes between seven and ten days for the skin to grow
back. During the initial
few days, the face may be covered by a bandage.
The bandage helps with the oozing and may encourage healing.
After resurfacing it is normal for the regenerating skin to weep
and crust until the new skin has grown in.
Dressings may be applied to aid skin regeneration.
This healing and regenerating process takes about 9 days.
You may want to postpone social engagements and avoid public
contact during this period. In
most cases patients are fully recovered and back to their normal
activities within 7-10 days.
Sun
block should be applied when in the sun.
Make-up can be worn after the first week. Over the next few weeks, your fresh pink skin turns to a more
natural tone, revealing a smoother, firmer new look.
Reasonable Expectations:
You can expect a marked
reduction of wrinkles. Complete
elimination of all wrinkles in a single session and sometimes in
multiple sessions is not reasonable.
