Even if you had perfect vision as a child or young adult, it can still degrade over time. Sometimes that degradation occurs because of presbyopia, or an age-related condition that blurs your vision. However, a condition called glaucoma can also damage your eyesight as you age. This condition occurs when liquid can’t flow out of the eye, so pressure builds up around the optic nerve, and sometimes results in permanent blindness.
Luckily, ophthalmologists have developed many treatments to reduce and eliminate glaucoma. At Country Hills Eye Center, we proudly offer iStent® to our Ogden patients. This treatment improves the flow of fluid around your eye so pressure decreases.
Learn More About iStent®
An iStent® consists of a miniscule, L-shaped device one millimeter long and 0.33 millimeters high. Ophthalmologists implant it inside the eye during cataract surgery, or the surgery used to remove your eye’s natural lens after it becomes cloudy. Once implanted, it creates a direct path for fluid to exit the eye.
iStents® work best in patients with mild to moderate open-angle glaucoma. It does not work in patients with angle-closure glaucoma. If you don’t know what kind of glaucoma you have, consult your ophthalmologist.
