While eyeglasses and contacts are two ways to achieve perfect eyesight, we understand that some patients desire a permanent fix. It’s for this reason that we proudly specialize in LASIK eye surgery here in Ogden, UT.

What Is LASIK?

LASIK is a form of corrective eye surgery which uses a medical-grade laser to reshape the cornea and correct the deformations which cause poor vision. When the shape of the cornea becomes distorted, vision is compromised, resulting in refractive errors like nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. LASIK eye surgery gets to the root of these vision problems. It restores the shape of the cornea to correct deformations and give you perfect, crystal clear vision permanently. You’ll never have to deal with the hassles of forgetting where you put your glasses or trying to put in contacts while running late again.

The LASIK Procedure

LASIK eye surgery in Ogden, UT is performed for each eye separately, taking only about five minutes per eye.

Before your procedure begins, your doctor may apply numbing eye drops into your eye to prevent discomfort. You may also be given medication to help with relaxation, if necessary. You will be placed where your eye is positioned directly underneath the laser, while a lid speculum will be used to keep your eyelids wide open for the procedure.

Your eye doctor will mark the cornea with a marker to assist in creating a very thin, superficial corneal flap. This flap will be folded back to allow for the access and removal of microscopic amounts of underlying corneal tissue. This process reshapes the cornea to improve your vision. It works by allowing light that enters the eye to focus on the retina more accurately. You will then be instructed to look at a target light while laser light pulses to your cornea.

The process is painless, although you may feel some pressure from the operating laser.

Aftercare Tips

When your corrective eye surgery has been completed, you’ll be instructed by your eye doctor on how to care for your eyes. It is common to feel a burning or itching sensation, as well as hazy or blurry vision immediately following your procedure. These effects are only temporary and should fade quickly. Your eyesight will continue to improve in the following days, although it may take up to several weeks in rare cases. Many patients experience improved vision immediately. You won’t be able to drive until your eye doctor has verified that your vision meets the legal standard for operating a vehicle, which can’t be done until the following day. Here are a few general tips to help you care for your eyes after corrective eye surgery:

  • Rest for the day. Your eye doctor may require you to take the following day off as well.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for up to a week after your procedure, as this may affect the healing process.
  • Refrain from rubbing your eyes, as there is a small risk that you could dislodge the corneal flap before it has reattached to the underlying cornea.
  • Follow your eye doctor’s instructions precisely.
